Our History

Deane's Buslines had its beginning in July 1990 when the Deane family purchased Lever's Canberra to Queanbeyan Bus Service including the Queanbeyan City route bus and school bus services.

Quodling Brothers Pty Ltd, which was the operating name of the former Lever's bus service, was renamed Deane's Buslines Pty Limited on 10 April 1992.

Deane's Buslines obtained its first operator accreditation under the provisions of the 1990 NSW Passenger Transport Act on 19 May 1992. Under Accreditation No. 9499 and subsequent accreditations 13138 and 21952 the business is now permitted to operate over 100 buses and coaches on regular passenger services and charter.

Urban school bus services based in Queanbeyan have been improved progressively in recent years and subsequent acquisitions of rural school bus services have created one of the largest fully integrated rural and regional school bus networks in NSW, utilising 100 buses.

Deane's Buslines now boasts a great deal of expertise and experience which has allowed it to develop innovative schemes in the public transport field including being the first operator in the region, and one of the first in NSW, to offer stored value Smartcards to urban bus passengers, first in the region to introduce a "Hail and Ride" urban bus service when a new Jerrabomberra bus timetable was introduced in November 1998, and Deane's has developed the largest fully integrated regional school bus network south of Sydney, offering considerable benefits to Government agencies and the community.

Purchase of Edwards Bus Service Eden

In December 2001, Dennis and Susan Deane purchased Edwards Bus Service Eden a business that was first established in 1924 by Richard Edwards. At the time of the sale the company was being managed by the third generation of the Edwards family.

Deane's Travel took over the operation of the business in December 2001. The business was located in Eden on the Sapphire Coast of NSW approximately 55km north of the Victorian border, 285km S.E. of Canberra, and 495Km south of Sydney . It was apparent soon after the takeover that the Eden property was not the ideal location for the depot as growth over the years particularly in Pambula Beach , Merimbula and Tura Beach saw the majority of services commencing in those areas which resulted in empty running.

New Depot

The decision was made by Management to relocate the Eden operation and build a new depot at South Pambula ; the new depot was completed and began operations in December 2005. The depot features a fully automatic bus wash which recycles 95% of the water used, water tanks with a capacity of 100,000 litres capture rain water and provides all the water necessary for the property, at the compilation of this Corporate History the property has never switched to town water.

Another feature of the new depot is a fully bunded above ground 20,000 litre fuel tank that is equipped with an Eco Stop system. In the event of a catastrophic fuel spill the Eco Stop ensures that the spilt fuel does not enter the storm water system, thus protecting the environment.
